Which way is the candy?

Hello again!    Fall has started and I am getting out all my fall and halloween stamp sets.      I love this time of the year.   The only thing that I will miss is the longer days.    Soon, it will be dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home.    I will only see my house in the daylight on the weekend. I watercolored the witch image from the Birdie Brown set, Which way is the Candy?    I used my Zig markers and water colored the image.    The background was done with Distress inks instead of the Zig.  I find it easier to make the background with them.   This little witch always makes me think of Samantha on Bewitched, for the younger crowd, that is an old TV show.   For the watercolor background, I really wanted a lot of spots and marks to reflect what I love about watercoloring.   You dry your background in-between coats and you will get the cool spotted look.

Stamps:  MFT Birdie Brown Which way is the Candy?
Inks: Versafine Onyx Black, Distress Pumice Stone, Black Soot, Crushed Olive, Peeled Paint
Papers: Carlson Watercolor paper, SU Basic Black

Happy Haunting!

My Favorite Things Weekly Sketch Challenge - Delicate Poppies

Happy Sunday!    I decided to pull out my Zig Clean Color Markers to color up the poppies from this stamp set.    They are very vibrant and blend nicely on Bristol paper.   The Bristol paper provides a smooth surface for blending the colors.   To keep the color vibrant and intense, I did not add water but blended just with the markers.

I have had the original stamp set from MFT Lisa Johnson Pretty Poppies, I really loved when she came out with a matching set that was line images that are great for coloring with watercolor or any type of marker.   This was my first time using the Poppies in the Delicate Pretty Poppies set.   I ended up coloring a bunch of them so when I need to make a quick card, I have some all ready to go to make other cards.

Check below for all the items used on this card.    I used vibrant reds to make the poppies really pop. You can barely see on the white panel, I stamped with the Linen Background Stamp and used some Sea Glass Blue ink and just lightly ran my hand along the panel as I was inking so that there were uneven places in the stamping.    All the edges of the Steel Blue Card Stock were inked with Distress ink in Pumice Stone to give them a vintage feel.

All products My Favorite Things unless otherwise noted below.

Stamps:  LJD Delicate Pretty Poppies, Linen Background stamp
Inks: Hybrid Black Licorice, Distress Ink Pumice Stone, SSS Sea Glass, Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers (Carmine Red, Light Carmine, Light pink, Olive Green, Mid Green, Dark Brown, Mid Brown)
Papers: Steel Blue, Smooth White, Jelly Bean Green, Strathmore Bristol
Tools:  Stitched Recthangle Frames, Pierced Fishtail Flag Stax, LJD Pretty Poppies dies, Blueprint 12, Stitched Horizontal Strips, Pretty Pink Posh Sparkling Clear 4 mm and 6 mm sequins, Sakura White Gel Pen

The color is so vibrant with coloring directly with the Zig markers.   They blended very easily on the Bristol paper.    I applied two coats with the markers.    The picture below shows the dimension created with foam tape and the sparkling sequins add the final touch of sparkle.

Peek a boo card for the My Favorite Things Card Design Superstar Contest

One last card that I am entering into the My Favorite Things Card Design Superstar contest!   I used my new Birdie Brown Harvest Mouse set and the Stitched Interactive Window Trio to create a peek a boo card.   I started with some MFT Tangy Orange card stock and stamped with the Gingham Background stamp with Tangy Orange Ink.    I used the Blueprints 13 Stitched Frame to cut the panel with a nice stitched edge.   I then die cut the Stitched Interactive trio out and trimmed out two of the panels flaps and left one for a surprise the to card recipient.

I penciled the open areas to stamp the image from the Harvest Mouse set and colored the images in with Copic Markers and then added some Wink of Stella clear and White Gel Pen as accent to the pictures.   The sentiment is from Lisa Johnson Designs Cheerful Blessings from My Favorite Things and stamped with Versamark and embossed with Gold embossing powder.   I added two Pierced Fishtail flags to the stop and stamped one with the Swiss Dot Background stamp.

Ink Smooshing with Stencils - My Favorite Things Card Design Contest

I used my stencil and Distress Inks and did a smoothing technique on some watercolor card stock to create a background for a fall themed card.       Using a stencil on the backside, smooth some Distress inks in various spots.   For my card, I used Antique Linen, Spiced Marmalade and Gathered Twigs.  Then spritz it really good with some water and flip the stencil over and smooth it on to the watercolor paper.    I use some copy paper to place on top and run my hands over the stencil and watercolor paper to press the ink into the paper.   You need to really spritz it with some water and get the colors moving before you flip it on to the water color paper.    I then water colored my Pure Innocence stamp with distress inks on water color paper.

Stamps:  My Favorite Things Pure Innocence Thankful Friend
Inks: MFT Hybrid Hot Fudge, Versamark, Distress Antique Linen, Spiced Marmalade, Gathered twigs, Mowed Lawn, Crushed Olive, Brushed Corduroy, Spun Sugar, Tattered rose, Vintage Photo

Distress Ink Stamping Part Two - Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Make it Colorful

Here is my second card sharing the same method of my prior post, except this is the first generation stamping the image and I save the second generation stamped image for another card.  This time I used Distress Inks of Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade and Gathered Twigs.    I spritzed water on the stamp after inking and then stamped the image on watercolor paper.   I then spritzed with water again and stamped a second image with the ink left over on the stamp.  I saved that for another card that I will share later.      I made this into a Mother's Day card with a sentiment from a Simon Says Stamp set called Best Mom Ever.

Stamps:   Stampendous Butterfly Trio, SSS Best Mom Ever
Inks: Distress Picked Raspberry, Spiced Marmalade, Squeezed Lemonade and Gathered Twigs, Versamark
Papers:  SU Soft Suede, Watercolor paper
Tools: MFT Blueprints 20, SSS Mini Hearts die, Heidi Swap Gold Color Shine, Ranger Liquid Pearl Embossing Powder

Distress Ink Stamping - Simon Says Stamp Wednesday Challenge Make it Colorful

Today I am sharing two cards (separate post for the second card) created using Distress Ink Stamping along with water to make an ink blended background.    First up is a card created with blues and brown distress ink.    I used Cracked Pistachio, Peacock Feathers, Mermaid Lagoon and Gathered Twigs.   I used a stamp from Stampendous called Butterfly Trio.     I inked up the stamp with the Distress inks and spritzed with water to get the ink moving.    Then I stamped the image on watercolor paper.    I actually stamped two impressions. The image below is the second generation of the stamp.   I spritzed with water and stamped on watercolor paper and then stamped.  Spritzed with water and stamped again to get a lighter impression and used for the card below.    I saved the initial image for another card.    I used some more distress ink and water and then flicked the card with some ink splatter.   I added some Heidi Swap Gold Color Shine to add some sparkle.

Stamps:  Stampendous Butterfly Trio, Verve Scripture Melody 1
